Debian 9: Stretch released

The most used Linux Distribution, indirectly or directly, Debian is like a father to many big and small distros.Today Debian team announced the release of Debian Stretch, the new Debian release. This release really excites us.Wondering, Why? Find yourself by reading the full post.
Before we start, We want to thank Ian Murdock, the man without whom we must not be having the Linux as interesting as it is now to use and of course the availability of a variety of other distros based on Debian can't be ignored.

What is new in here?

  • Well starting from the very first thing that may decide whether you'll try or use new Debian or not and it is, of course, the system requirement. The new Debian Stretch has more new adds to the system support. With one new added architecture and one removal may make some difference.64-bit little endian MIPS has been added and sadly PowerPC is no more supported in Debian 9.Other than that 32-bit PC(i386) is not kicked out of the supported list, as per many other distributions dropping the support of it.ARM EABI, ARMv7, 64-bit Pc are some other supported architectures.

  • With the release of Debian 9, Firefox and Thunderbird are making a return.Replacing the long time occupied at their places Iceweasel and Icedove are removed.
  • MariaDB is now the default MySQL variant.MariaDB 10.1 has been added to the same.Apache 2.4.25,Chromium 59.0.0371.86, GIMP 2.8.18, LibreOffice 5.2, systemd 232, Thunderbird 45.8 are some of the update packages. With the inclusion of 15346 new packages, a total of 61687 packages is in here in the Debian 9.Out of which most of the packages, about 29859 packages have been updated.
  • In Debian 9 Linux 4.9 is the base Kernel.
  • UEFI boot is now better than before, so Windows Laptops must not get any issue in installing Debian 9 on their system.
  • Debian Stretch has wide range of almost all major DEs, GNOME 3.2KDE Plasma 5.8, LXDE, MATE 1.16, Xfce 4.12
  • Xorg server doesn't require root anymore.
  • New deb.debian.org mirror has been introduced. All major to minor main archive, port archive, security archive are available in there.
We will be back with full detailed post on Debian 9 Stretch.Till then You may give it a try.

Hi guys, welcome to the 17th segment of "Introduction with Linux Distro".
Well, Libre OS USB is a new entry in Linux World, Patrick Fox, the man behind this amazing distro united with TechPhylum team to test this amazing OS
Have you ever thought of carrying your system, carrying the whole world which is right on your PC or carrying all the important data you need anytime along with you? Well, if yes then this segment is simply meant for you. Today, our guest is Libre OS USB. This distribution will fulfill your portable OS dreams. Let's get to know more about this distro.
  • About Libre OS USB - Libre OS is yet to get released Globally for Public. But as Libre USB OS developer found us perfect for testing it, we got our early hands on this OS. We did our best in hunting down some of the minor to major issues what a normal user will face in daily usage. We got our hands on the Libre OS 4.0 and now with full bug and performance fixes, here is our review of Libre OS 5.0. For now, this OS is arranging Crowd Funding to keep the development up and generate a good community around it.
  • Introduction & Background - Libre OS USB is originated in France. Libre OS USB was born in 2012 when Mr. Patrick Fox, the developer behind this distro first made a Xubuntu-based live OS key for a local computer vendor. Soon it received praise and Mr. Fox decided to make the Libre OS series. This OS is meant to boot on any machine and it supports both legacy and UEFI bootloaders. While the OS is new to rest of the world, there are some interesting features about this distro.
  • Whole OS in one USB - Unlike another distro which takes space on your hard drive, Libre OS USB completely takes its space in the USB. A standard 16 GB USB is enough to carry this OS and all your important files around. It works as a live OS. All you need to do is make a USB key of Libre OS USB and just plug it in any PC and tweak your bootloader, you will get access to this wonderful OS. This can be anything, your portable office, a portable studio, a data rescue OS, an everyday OS, etc.

  • Making USB key and Booting - Like many other distro, it is very simple to make USB key of Libre OS USB. Once you get an image file of this distro, you can simply us dd method to make USB key from any Linux distro. Alternatively, if you are using windows then you can use Rufus and select dd image option while making a USB key. Once you are done making a USB key, just plug it in any pc and boot from USB. you will be greeted with a beautiful boot screen of Libre OS USB.
  • Look and Feel - Libre OS USB is currently using latest MATE desktop environment for their testing versions. This makes the OS quite lightweight and can be used on older hardware. The icons and themes are beautiful.
    Libre OS USB
There is also an option for tweaking themes and downloading more from online sources which make it quite customizable. You can simply choose just light or dark flavor, otherwise you can also customize it further to suit your style.
  • Libre OS USB

Well, there is also a beautiful boot screen animation and a good looking lock screen. So when it comes to looks, Libre OS USB is absolutely not a bad choice.

  • Base and Performance - Libre OS USB uses Ubuntu as it's base. Being based on Ubuntu give an advantage of utilizing Ubuntu repositories from software and updates. The current testing version of Libre OS USB is based on Ubuntu 17.04 with all the latest updates available till date. When it comes to performance, Libre OS USB won't disappoint you at all. If you used a USB 3.0, then it will run very smoothly without any lags or freezes. The transitions work smooth and it is very stable as per our use till now.
    Libre OS USB
  • Encryption - This feature is very interesting in this OS. unlike any other live medium, Libre OS USB offers an encrypted storage withing your USB key. So basically whatever work you have done in this distro is saved in that encrypted storage. Many live mediums don't offer this feature which is a plus point for this OS.
  • Software and Applications - By default Libre OS USB is bundled with loads of applications and software which are useful in day to day life. It have LibreOffice for office works, it have studio apps like audacity and more, it has many games for entertainment.

We used this for rescuing some important data from our secondary machine. You can just use it as your private space because once you removed the USB key from PC, no one can see what you done. You can even use it as an everyday OS.
  • The man behind Libre OS USB - Patrick Fox is a programmer and Linux enthusiast who developed Libre OS back in 2012 and sold many copies in France, as soon as his customers started to appreciate the usability and handiness, he started to develop it more and more. And now here in 2017, he has come to a more stable and a complete ruckus to fight against all the top leading Distros. He is the One Man Army for his appreciable work.We are quite impressed with the OS and more impressed by the thing that without any community lying underneath for the testing and bug-hunting.
  • Philosophy and Goals - The developer behind Libre OS simply wants this OS to be released on a larger scale and on an international level. He wants to unite Linux enthusiasts and make a community around Libre OS USB. This OS is made to simplify people's needs and provide them a strong medium which they can access anywhere. While doing all this it also keeps your data encrypted and secure with stable and smooth performance.
  • Support and Contribute - If you want to contribute to this project feel free to make desired donations at Kickstarter.com. Furthermore, you can visit the official website of Libre OS USB for more information.Kindly Share the post and Kickstarter link as much as possible. We really need some good Distro like this in Linux World.

Manjaro 17.0 Gellivara review

Hello guys, there is certain hype with the recent release of Manjaro 17.0 Gellivara. We also tried out the latest release and it just surprised us so we decided to write some good and bad things about it. Let's see what Manajro 17.0 has to offer us.
  • The Base - Manjaro 17.0 is based on Arch Linux. But we think, Manjaro is on comp[letely different level from any other Arch-based-easy-to-install type of distribution. Manjaro clearly maintain it's own repositories while giving advantage of utilizing AUR too. Manjaro repositories have some exclusive packages which can't even be found in Arch repositories.
  • Rolling Release - One more interesting thing is Manjaro supports rolling release just like Arch. You don't have to make clean installation every time, you can simply stay updated within the system.
  • Look and Feel - Manjaro 17.0 KDE edition is just beautiful. The look and feel is simply eye soothing. While it looks good, it also works in the same manner. The icons, theme, artwork is beautiful.

  • Customization - Manjaro 17.0 is highly customizable. You can simply customize deepest part of your Manjaro system. There are various choices of themes to choose from. You can separately customize desktop theme, login screen, cursors, fonts, window manager, etc. To add more fun to this thing, Manjaro team had made it possible to download other themes from online repositories.

  • MSM - Manjaro Settings Manager (MSM) is great way to satisfy your kernel needs for system. From MSM you can find a suitable kernel according to your system. You can variety of kernel here raging from 3.10 series to latest 4.10 series. Languages, drivers can also configured within MSM.

  • Applications and Availability - Manjaro 17.0 includes lots of applications and utilities by default. But there is octopi, a graphical installer for all the applications available in repositories. So overall, Manjaro 17.0 is quite a good release. It is decently stable  and performance is also on decent level. Tough we experience a very little lag few times but it's negligible and can be ignored. Manjaro 17.0 packs with Linux kernel 4.9.13 LTS which provides support for many hardware and works like a charm. We recommend you to use Manjaro Linux once, it has lot to offer and it is made with love from developer team. There are different flavors in Manjaro, The flagships are Xfce and KDE. Soon, community flavors will be released too. We also explained detailed process of installing Manjaro 17.0 here. Hi guys, welcome to the 15th segment of "Introduction with Linux Distro". We have made quite a few introductions from the start of this website, every segment has something unique to itself. So this time we will be having a Linux distribution which have pure philosophy and creativity, as our guest. Let's get to know more about BlankOn Linux.

BlankOn Linux is originated in Indonesia and typically made for native people to increase awareness of Linux and to encourage more people to use Linux. Initial release was based on Fedora core but now, BlankOn Linux is based on Debian. BlankOn Linux uses a custom desktop environment and a good base. Let's see the details of BlankOn.
  • Look and Feel : BlankOn uses a custom desktop environment called Manokwari. Manokwari is simply one of the most beautiful desktop environment ever created. From the top bar to the bottom dock Manokwari is nicely designed to look absolutely gorgeous.

The icons in Manokwari is also very beautiful. Overall artwork is really pleasant to eyes. This is the reason it is so beautiful.
  •  The Performance : BlankOn not only looks good but it also performs on equal grounds. We used BlankOn X Tambora to test and after testing it for some days, we are completely satisfied with it's performance. It is stable and satisfactorily responsive. BlankOn can be used in a system with only 1 GB of RAM. BlankOn uses Linux kernel 4.6.0-1 and to give some hope to old hardware users, BlankOn X supports both 32 bit and 64 bit architecture.
  • Use in Daily Life : A user can use BlankOn in any way he/she wants. BlankOn can be used to do office work, It can also be used to do multimedia related work. If you only need to browse internet and social media then it is not a problem either. As BlankOn is based on Debian it utilizes Debian's repositories and made it available for user's to install. You can easily find any application needed in software center (Yes, it has a software center too.) Otherwise there is always the mighty terminal to satisfy your hunger for more.

Unfortunately we couldn't find any forum for BlankOn. The philosophy of BlankOn team is to encourage users to use Linux and also develop it and learn it. We hope they succeed in increasing Linux awareness and encouraging more and more users to use and develop Linux.
Overall BlankOn Linux is nicely made and maintained Linux distribution which can be useful to anyone. Why not give it a try? Give it a shot in VM and if you like it, then make it permanent.
