Dexpot : lightweight virtual workspaces for Windows

Hello buddies,

It's been a while we haven't posted about useful stuffs to ease your load while using PC. So today we gonna introduce you to Dexpot, a lightweight, free virtual desktop (workspace) manager.
We recently posted :

Dexpot is really helpful utility so keep your desktop a clean place, especially if you are a multitasker and do a lot of things on PC at same time. In case of Linux this is not a big problem as there is already integration of  'mighty workplaces'. But in case of Windows this is quite a problem (unless you are using Windows 10). This is where Dexpot comes in handy. What does it do? It creates multiple virtual desktops or workplaces. As it is very lightweight, it doesn't require much of memory and resources.
As you can see in above screenshot. Dexpot takes its place in taskbar and gives easy access to multiple desktops just by hovering your mouse over it.

How to Install Ubuntu Trusty Tahr along with Windows OS (Dual Booting)

Hello Friends..!!!
Today we are here to learn how to do a dual boot means two OS in same PC. We are going to learn how to dual boot Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr along with Windows OS.

Okay, there are some basic requirements. First of all we will need a PC. Then ISO file of Ubuntu Trusty Tahr, you can get it from here. After you got the ISO, you have to make a bootable DVD or USB. We have also explained How to create a bootable USB? and we recommend you to make a partition from Windows that can be used to install Ubuntu.

After we got the above things, we are all set to go. Now let's fire up the PC and tweak the boot loader to read from USB or DVD you just created. once we did this, the installer of Ubuntu will pop up.

1. As you can see in below screen snap the installer of Ubuntu is opened up. There are few basic requirements that should be completed and don't forget to check on Third party MP3 plugin. Now let's continue to next step.

2. Now as per below screenshot my Ubuntu installer not detecting the Windows 8 OS but it's there. You can choose the option

“Install Ubuntu along with Windows” to reduce the pain of partitioning, etc. But we not 100% sure about this method. So will be explaining in more detail how it works. Check on “Something else” and proceed to next step.

3. WARNING: Now as you can see in below screensnap, I have marked where exactly my windows is located. We don't have to touch those drives otherwise say bye-bye to Windows OS.

4. Now we didn't touch the Windows drives, let's move to other normal drive. And let me remind you once again keep A data back up of the drive in which we gonna install Ubuntu. Now after this we need to delete that partition by clicking on '-' sign or if you have already made a partition from windows then follow the same to delete it.

5. Now we got the free space, we have to create a new partition from that free space by clicking the '+' icon. After that a new window will pop up. We have to leave around 2gb free space and create a partition from remaining space. Choose disk as primary partition. The file system must be EXT4, as maximum Linux distro supports this file system. And in the end there's the mount point, make sure to select only '/' from the options. Don't choose any other mount point.

6. Now we have created a partition for installing Ubuntu Trusty Tahr. If I remember properly then we have left around 2gb of free space in previous step. We gonna use that 2gb space to create a new partition. We gonna use the file system as Swap area, as the swap area will help in painless installation and keep away the troubles.

7. Here comes the most tricky step. Many user (even I in the beginning) mess up here. We have to choose the proper position for the boot loader i.e. Grub. Remember as for the beginners we shouldn't mess up here because it can brick your system. We have to select the whole HDD means the root of the HDD (/dev/sda) as the place for boot loader. It's the first option and by default selected. So don't mess with it.

After the above steps completed, the tricky and hard part is finished. You will proceed to select your location, preferred language, Set up username and password. After this the installer will automatically install Ubuntu Trusty Tahr in your PC. Now you are just a restart away from using the newly installed Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr.
Follow the processes properly as any mistake may cause major problems, so if you are confused or having problem then comment below.
Make sure you give us a like :) and comment below!

How to highly compress a file?

Previously we posted:

Previously we posted:
I hope you liked it.

So today I am going to show you "How to highly compress a file?"
After searching from weeks,i finally got a tool to compress a file highly.
so by highly i meant to say more than Half of its original file size.
The one i tested,i got 93.7MB from a 245MB file isn't it really amazing?
And and...we have still a more surprising thing for you,it is that the result is for a VIDEO FILE,no Pals,i am not kidding at all.

SOFTWARE:FreeArc(0.666)

HOMEPAGE:http://www.freearc.org/

MORE DETAILS:Freeware,open-source.

PLATFORM USED FOR TESTING:WINDOWS(ALSO AVAILABLE FOR LINUX)

DETAILS-

So according to the hompage of FreeArc,it uses 11 compression algorithms and filters, which is higher(Even double compared to few, more or less) than most of available file compressing tools/achiever.
Even I felt that this software is not only fast in compressing but also high in performance.
we can call it one of the fastest and most efficient file achiever available!
It gave me much fine results, around 2-3 time lesser time period than few i have used.
It also provides "convert to SFX" which is self extracted archives and installers.
And so on many features they have.....check on their Homepage.

One thing i liked that they also pointed out their lacked features, what i really liked about them!
Accoding to them in the present FreeArc(0.666)
"Compared to RAR and 7-zip, FreeArc at this moment lacks the following: multi-volume archives, 64-bit version, storing of file attributes/extended timestamps/NTFS streams in the archive, bcj2, data segmentation. These are planned to be fixed in subsequent versions"
Source:Official Homepage

So Now Its Time For A Tutorial:

  • Download these files from here
1.Windows installer(or Portable Windows package)
2.Add-on: FreeArc PowerPack (standard set of external compressors).
  •  Now install both of them, now you can either directly compress Files/Folders or Even by going to the main software and selecting files/folders.so i will just Compress directly!
  • Here is the file i have compressed
(NOTE:THE RESULTS CAN BE DIFFERENT FOR DIFFERENT FILE FORMATS!,I HAVE USED A VIDEO FILE)
CHECK OUT THE SIZE IS 245MB.

  • Now right click on the desired file and go to FreeArc
and now you can see three options,so both of top options are preset with default settings and will give normal results like I got 138MB after compression. So if you have good configuration in your system then follow the next, select "Add to archive".
  • Now choose these settings in two screenshots below, for best results.
(The Make EXE will convert it to SFX in .EXE than .ARC,by which you can extract the compressed file even in a system in which FreeArc is not installed.)

(You can also set password in "Encryption" tab and can add any comment in "Comment" tab)
  • Click on "OK" and compression will be started.

  •  Here is the result
See the result its 93.7MB from 245MB in first screenshot.

So I hope you all liked this post so please share with your friends and share it.

Why to use linux over windows or with windows?

Hello buddies,

Welcome to our new Topic,

Why should we use Linux?

This question must have arisen in your intelligent minds. Well let see, we will try to explain it in a very simpler way as much as possible.

As we know Linux is an open-source operating system. So it is free to use. Yup you heard it right, no one gonna ask you to pay for using Linux (Yes, if you want then you can Donate).

Just install it in your desktop and you are ready to use it. Secondly Linux has a huge collection of software and apps, most of them are free of cost, I repeat most of them. Thirdly Linux is very powerful and customizable OS, there's lots tweaks you can do to bend down the system according to your need. There are some bleeding edge distros like Fedora, etc. And finally, these days Linux is fun too, don't believe us? Just try it out and you will surely find using it.

Why should we use Linux instead of windows or along with windows??

By this question we are neither telling you to leave your existing windows system nor we are forcing you to ditch windows for Linux.

There are some reasons why we should use Linux.

1. As we discussed earlier Linux is an open-source OS. It is free. When we compare it to windows, new releases of windows which costs a lot

2. “But my windows PC have lots of useful software and apps, will I get them on Linux? "

Well, we don't wanna disappoint you guys, but the answer is YES. Linux has a big collection of software and apps which can be used as an alternative to that of windows. Actually there are many apps which are present in both Linux and windows. Here's another plus point for Linux that majority of software present in Linux are open-source which is free of cost.

3. “It's a free thing, why we should use it.?? Free things won't have features like a premier and paid thing.”

Well again, we would say it's wrong. Linux is very robust and powerful OS. Even though it's free it has lots of cool features you can find in paid OS. Linux even have some features which can't be seen in windows either. So all in all Linux always have something interesting to show you.

4. “What about the games? Windows OS have majority of good and extreme level games, I will miss it in Linux.”

Let us tell you that you guys are somewhat right here. Windows have majority of high entry games. But Linux won't disappoint you here too. Steam is now on Linux too. So lots of high end games are coming for Linux too. Plus there are some amazing open-source games with good graphics and game-play that won't disappoint you. Also, you can use WINE a windows compatibility layer in Linux which can emulate lots of windows apps and some games too.

5. “Don't forget the virus attack”

In windows OS this is the biggest threat for everyone, to protect our system from viruses. But in Linux this is nothing. There are very few or absolutely no viruses for Linux. You don't even need an anti-virus in your Linux PC. Linux is a very secure operating system.

6. “I heard that Linux is very hard to use”

First of all stop thinking like this. You won't know it's hard or not if you won't try it. Linux is not hard if you put a little effort in learning a bit. Nowadays many Linux distros have amazing Graphical user interface (GUI) which makes it easy to use and makes it feel like windows a bit. But still the essence of Linux is there.

Overall Linux is a very stable OS. Even more stable than windows. There are very rare crashes in Linux. It is also more secure than windows. This was a short description, the list can go very long if we go in depth.

Again we are not telling you to ditch your existing windows OS. You can try Linux along with windows too by means of dual booting. And if you enjoyed Linux and feel like making it primary OS then you can easily do that too. If you guys got any questions please do post in comments. We hope you guys gonna have fun with us ahead.
